The European Union Emphasizes that Panama Must Maintain Constant Efforts to Avoid Repeating its listings for Money Laundering and Tax Evasion

The European Union ambassador to Panama, Izabela Matusz pictured below, highlights progress, key pending issues, and opportunities for bilateral cooperation.

Panama’s removal from the European Union’s list of high-risk countries for money laundering was encouraging news, but not definitive.  The diplomat warns that the country must maintain constant efforts to avoid repeating these violations and make progress on other outstanding issues, such as its inclusion on the list of tax havens. She also highlights the strategic cooperation projects the European bloc is already working on with the country, ranging from energy transformation to the development of a green maritime hub.
