Dana Castañeda Steps Down as Assembly President: “There Was a Discussion of the CSS Law Without any Hassle.”
Dana Castañeda praised the discussion of the Social Security Fund law during her tenure as president of the Legislature, while also highlighting other actions she described as achievements.

Representative Dana Castañeda, of the Realizando Metas (RM) party, said goodbye to the presidency of the National Assembly this Tuesday, July 1, after a year in office (2024-2025), which she now leaves in the hands of Representative Jorge Herrera, of the Panameñista Party. “There was a discussion without any hassles,” Castañeda affirmed, while praising the role of the Assembly in promoting the discussion of the law, and the role of the Executive Branch in addressing an issue that had been postponed by previous administrations.

Dana Castañeda assumed the presidency of the National Assembly on July 1, 2024, with the support of a diverse majority and a commitment to transforming the institution. During her tenure, she played a leading role in episodes that placed her at the center of political debate: promises of internal purges, tensions with the Comptroller’s Office, and a staunch defense of the legislative budget. On July 1, 2024, she was elected with 44 votes in favor. That day, she was supported by her colleagues from the Realizing Goals (RM), Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD), Panameñista Party, Democratic Change (CD), and the mixed caucus.
