The Expanded Locks of the Panama Canal have Witnessed more than 25,000 Transits in 9 Years

The Panama Canal Authority reported that in the first half of fiscal year 2025, a total of 2,181 Neopanamax transits were recorded, that is, through the locks expanded and operational since 2016.

A total of 25,000+ vessel transits have crossed the expanded locks of the Panama Canal in the last nine years, since the inauguration of the first ship, the Cosco Shipping Panama, on June 26, 2016.  Specifically, 2,181 vessels passed through the Neopanamax locks of the Panama Canal, a canal expanded by Panama, during these past eight months, representing a 21.23% increase compared to the 1,799 crossings reported during the same period in fiscal year 2024.
