U.S. Military Personnel are at Work in Colón, Panama. What’s this all about?

The United States ambassador to Panama, Kevin Cabrera, revealed at noon Monday, May 19, that a group from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is working to improve the drainage system in the city of Colón.  The information was revealed by the United States ambassador to Panama through his social media accounts. “It’s a pleasure to be in Colón with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers,” Cabrera posted on his X account. According to Cabrera, they are working with Colón to improve the city’s drainage and sewage systems, which often floods.

The diplomat toured the construction site accompanied by local authorities, members of the Corps of Engineers, and the governor of Colón, Julio Hernández. “This is what US leadership looks like under President Trump: addressing challenges together and promoting regional stability,” Cabrera said.  Cabrera explained that his assistance is intended to improve the quality of life of the residents of Colon and to enhance commerce in the area.  According to authorities, a total of 12 pumps are operating in the city of Colón to prevent flooding in the city center.  The diplomat indicated that the Corps of Engineers is advising local authorities with suggestions for improving the drainage and sewage system.
