In the First Three Months of 2025 Panama has Deported more than 300 Persons

According to authorities, the main causes of deportation were: evasion of checkpoints, overstay, and illegal residence.

In the first three months of 2025, a total of 319 citizens have been evacuated from the country. Of this number, 228 have been deported and 91 expelled, a variation of more than 100 people compared to the same period in 2024, which totaled 184 foreigners, according to the National Migration Service (SNM).  Statistics from the entity reveal that the month with the highest incidence was January (144), while February (129) and March (46) show a downward trend, a situation that was repeated last year, since the largest number of departures was recorded from August onwards, which could be due to the change in government authorities.

According to the SNM, the main causes of deportation were: evasion of checkpoints (205), overstay (8), irregular stay (8), criminal record (6), and money laundering records (1).  The expulsions, on the other hand, were mainly caused by a history of robbery or theft (13), criminal history (12), evasion of checkpoints (12), a history of drug-related crimes (11), irregular residence (11), crimes against collective security (8), a history of crimes related to weapons (4), and crimes of aggression and violence (4).

Other reasons for expelling these 91 people were that they had a criminal record in their country (3), a history of terrorism (2), sentences for illicit trafficking (2), a history of arms trafficking (1), money laundering (1), fraud (1), homicide (1), sentences for theft or robbery (1), impediment to entry for having been deported (1), engaging in conduct that contravenes morality and good conduct (1), being a threat to collective security, health and public order (1), and being deported and entering illegally (1).  Coincidentally, two South American countries top both lists: Colombia with 166 deportees and 49 expelled, and Ecuador with 42 deportees and 15 expelled.
