The David-Panama Train Route between Panama City and Penonomé has been decided

Construction of the Panama-David-Border train will begin in January 2026, the Presidency of the Republic announced Thursday.  President José Raúl Mulino emphasized that the train route between Panama and Penonomé has already been defined, and the Penonomé-David route to the Costa Rican border is yet to be finalized.  Railway Secretary Henry Faarup has announced that the pending section will be demarcated by September 2025.  “The train is already felt in the air of the region,” the president emphasized.

In December of last year, the contract for technical assistance in developing the David-Panama railway master plan was signed.    The project, due to its magnitude, requires a year of prior work to carry out mapping, environmental impact, feasibility, technical work and contracting processes to begin construction.  According to Faarup, the project will bring an economic boost never before seen in the country. It will connect David not only with Panama, but also with the border, opening the way for integration with Costa Rica and Central America.  The existing 2019 master plan is currently being updated, but in line with the current needs of the population and the country.
