The World’s Largest Vehicle Carrier Passes Through the Panama Canal

The world’s largest vehicle carrier, the Hoegh Aurora, began transiting the Panama Canal this Friday, specifically through the Cocolí locks. 

“The Panama Canal reaffirms its importance in international maritime trade with the transit of the Hoegh Aurora, the largest vehicle carrier in the world,” the interoceanic waterway said  Vessel characteristics: 199.9 meters long, 37.5 meters wide and capacity for 9,100 CEU (Car Equivalent Units). 

Construction and route: Built in 2024, flying the Norwegian flag, it began its journey in China, Korea and Japan, bound for Jamaica, Mexico and the US Gulf.
