The governor of Chiriquí, Aixa Santamaría , asked the leaders of the Ngäbe-Buglé region to sit down and talk with the authorities of the Ministry of Public Works (MOP ) in light of the announcement of a closure of the Pan-American Highway scheduled for Tuesday, February 11. Santamaría said that the provincial authorities, together with the MOP, have a program for the rehabilitation of the streets in the province, especially in the areas affected by last year’s rains, and the region is also included in these works.

“This is an open-door government, committed to fulfilling its obligations to the communities,” he said, and asked the people of the region to be patient, calling on them to avoid measures such as road closures, which affect everyone. For their part, the leaders of the region, in a general assembly, made the decision to carry out an indefinite closure of the Pan-American Highway, due to the non-compliance with agreements related to the execution of highway projects, and expressed being tired of waiting.
