How Much Does a Christmas Dinner Cost According to ACODECO

Panama City: A survey conducted by the Consumer Protection and Competition Authority (ACODECO) revealed the approximate cost of a traditional Christmas dinner for four people. The price survey was applied in some supermarkets in Panama City, specifically in the Juan Díaz and Parque Lefevre and San Miguelito sectors. The cost of the dinner will vary based on the type of protein preferred, that is, if you opt for turkey, ham or chicken, each price will be different, with $55.31 being the lowest reference price and $84.37 being the highest. To prepare the report, the prices of about 25 products were monitored , some of which were: 33-ounce bagels without nuts; mixed nuts (400 g); fruit jam (14 oz); olives (7 oz); capers (7 oz); rice (5 pounds); can of pigeon peas (15 oz.); 1 pound of potatoes; 1 pound of onion; 1 dozen eggs; apples, grapes and pears (one pound each); rum punch (750 ml.) and sliced pineapple (20 ounces). Acodeco clarified that the survey was applied on December 2 and 3, that is, at the beginning of the Christmas season. These prices are for a dinner for four people, including 10 pounds of any of these proteins, with the prices of the main supermarket chains in the following sectors:
- Christmas dinner with ham: San Miguelito $72.57, Juan Díaz $80.06 and Parque Lefevre $84.37
- Christmas chicken dinner: San Miguelito $55.31, Juan Díaz $62.87 and Parque Lefevre $65.32
- Christmas dinner with turkey: San Miguelito $68.02, Juan Díaz $76.44 and Parque Lefevre $83.38
- Christmas dinner with turkey chicken: San Miguelito $62.11, Juan Díaz $65.07 and Parque Lefevre $73.12
