Biden May Resign Soon – VP Vance and Harris Debate Discussed – Other US News

It has been stated on a few internet sites that Joe Biden may resign as President as soon as Sunday. The decision may be made after Biden got high level pressure from Democrats like Schumer, Obama and Pelosi.  Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., privately told Democrat colleagues that she favors a competitive open primary process if President Joe Biden ends his campaign. In a closed-door meeting with colleagues in the California delegation, Pelosi said she did not think Biden could win — a stance she also shared directly with him in private conversation. Vice president Harris is beginning the process of looking for a running mate.

A Florida man, pictured below, accused of making threats against former President Donald Trump, U.S. Sen. JD Vance and their families on social media was arrested on Friday, police said.  The Jupiter Police Department said in a news release that officers arrested Michael W. Wiseman on charges of written threats to kill. Detectives said Wiseman had made multiple written threats on Facebook against Trump and Vance.  Multiple people notified local police in person and online about the posts, police said.

Ready to step up: VP Harris gains Capitol Hill cheerleaders as Biden isolates with Covid.  California Rep. Mark Takano on Saturday became the thirty-sixth (36) Democrat on Capitol Hill to call on Biden to exit the race on the record. He added that he believes Harris should be the one to helm the ticket.  Biden has repeatedly affirmed his commitment to 2024 campaign despite at least 36 and counting Democrats’ calls for him to step aside.

A call Friday featuring Vice President Kamala Harris and about 300 major Democratic donors left many who dialed in frustrated, with one donor declaring it “ludicrous” and another called it “mismanaged” shortly before it ended.  The fallout from the call comes as donations to the Biden-Harris campaign and Democratic groups have plummeted and as Harris has been deployed several times to speak with donors as questions swirl over Biden’s future on the ticket.

A truck with a billboard that urged those closest to President Biden to help him step down from the presidential race was seen driving near his Beach house in Delaware on Saturday.  The billboard’s message, written like an email on the back of the truck, said it was an “urgent memo.”  “To: Biden family, friends, allies, staff,” it continued with the “Subject: It’s your responsibility.”

The gunman, who shot former President Donald Trump, Thomas Matthew Crooks, flew a camera drone made by DJI over the rally site a few hours before Trump took the stage, to get an overhead view to help him plan his attack.

In an interview with Facebook on Thursday, the billionaire tech executive CEO Mark Zuckerberg said former President Trump’s immediate reaction after being shot was “badass” and inspiring, and helps explain his appeal to voters.

Trump said on Saturday that Chinese President Xi Jinping wrote him a beautiful note the other day when he heard about what happened.  Trump mentioned Xi’s letter while discussing his economic policy toward China during his presidency, adding, “I got along very well with President Xi.”

Donald Trump declared Saturday that he “took a bullet for democracy” while firing up a crowd of voters in Grand Rapids, Michigan, at his first rally since surviving an assassination attempt last week.  JD Vance joined the rally.

Why are the billionaires and the Valley boys on board the MAGA train?  “As the likelihood of a second term for President Trump raises, so does the likelihood of an extension of Trump’s 2017 corporate and individual tax cuts beyond 2025.”

Donald Trump’s campaign released a health update Saturday.  The memo, from Texas Rep. Ronny Jackson, who served as Trump’s White House physician, offers new details on the nature of the GOP nominee’s injuries and the treatment he received in the immediate aftermath of the attack.  According to Jackson, Trump sustained a gunshot wound to the right ear from a high-powered rifle that came “less than a quarter of an inch from entering his head, and struck the top of his right ear.” The bullet track, he said, “produced a 2 cm wide wound that extended down to the cartilaginous surface of the ear. There was initially significant bleeding, followed by marked swelling of the entire upper ear.”  While the swelling has since resolved and the wound “is beginning to granulate and heal properly,” he said Trump is still experiencing intermittent bleeding, requiring the dressing that was on display at last week’s Republican National Convention.  “Given the broad and blunt nature of the wound itself, no sutures were required,” he wrote.  Trump was initially treated by medical staff at Butler Memorial Hospital. According to Jackson, doctors “provided a thorough evaluation for additional injuries that included a CT scan of his head.”

Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican JD Vance on Tuesday had their first chat since the Ohio senator became the GOP vice presidential nominee, but the two sides are still working on terms for participating in a debate, according to three people familiar with the matter.  Harris has agreed to a debate on CBS News on either July 23 or Aug. 13. Two months ago, former President Donald Trump agreed to those same dates, or one later in the calendar, on behalf of his then-unidentified running mate — but for a debate on Fox News, which Biden’s team has indicated it would reject.  If Biden resigns, which is expected at any time, and drops out of the race, the next debate in September might be between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.  The Democratic National Convention in August will sort things out.  It is scheduled to be held August 19 to 22, 2024, at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

The people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal conversations about the debate, said there had been no progress at bridging the disagreements on the network partner and format, but they expect discussions to begin now that Trump has selected Vance, a first-term senator from Ohio.  “Obviously, we want to debate Vice President Harris because it’s important for the American people to see the contrast,” Vance told reporters on Tuesday evening. Harris, in her congratulatory voicemail to Vance on his selection on Monday, urged him to accept the CBS debate, according to one of the people familiar with the discussions. Vance returned Harris’ call on Tuesday and the pair exchanged pleasantries, that person said. A second person said they shared a desire to debate, but didn’t discuss specifics.

Donald Trump on the last night of the Republican Milwaukee event, described in detail the Saturday assassination attempt, a very sad day for America, but he appealed for unity amongst the Republicans, and that happened overwhelmingly.  Trump’s wife, Melania joined Donald on stage at the Convention. It was one of the key moments that got the loudest crowd reaction.  Thomas Matthew Crooks, the shooter, had searched online for information about both men and had photos of both Trump and Biden on his phone.  His motive in the shooting in Pennsylvania remains unclear.  In other US developments: A vigil for Corey Comperatore, the man killed in the shooting, was held.  And the Secret Service requested help to protect Trump’s future rallies.

As for poor Mr. Biden, Barack Obama privately expressed his doubts to the president, about Biden’s reelection chances. In recent days: The former US president told allies that Biden’s path to victory has diminished and he should seriously consider the viability of his candidacy.  And Obama is not alone: Former House speaker Nancy Pelosi has privately said she believes Biden can be persuaded to drop out soon. If he does, we’ve laid out possible next steps.

In other news: Biden froze 8 million student loans after an appeals court blocked his repayment plan.  Coronavirus activity in wastewater samples reached levels considered “high” or very high” in 26 states, CDC data shows.

Biden tested positive Wednesday.  What it means: Covid isn’t gone, but it’s no longer overwhelming hospitals. We may see two to three waves a year, one expert said.
