US President Joe Biden Urged to Drop Out of the 2024 Race

In a New York Times article, George Clooney urged the Democratic Party to choose a new nominee, pointing to Mr. Biden’s disastrous debate performance last month.  “We are not going to win in November with this president,” Clooney wrote. “On top of that, we won’t win the House, and we’re going to lose the Senate. This isn’t only my opinion; this is the opinion of every senator and Congress member and governor who I’ve spoken with in private. “The dam has broken”. Actor and prominent Democratic fundraiser George Clooney is calling for President Biden to drop out of the 2024 presidential race, even as Mr. Biden says he’s “firmly committed” to running.  The two-time Oscar winner conceded Mr. Biden may have been tired or sick during the debate against former President Donald Trump, but he warned Democrats about their election chances if they move forward with Mr. Biden as the party’s nominee.  Urging Democratic lawmakers not to “wait and see if the dam breaks,” Clooney said “the dam has broken.

We can put our heads in the sand and pray for a miracle in November, or we can speak the truth.”  The silver lining of a fresh nominee is that it would enliven the Democratic Party and “wake up voters,” Clooney wrote.  Clooney said the Democratic Party has an “exciting bench” and suggested picking someone at the Democratic National Convention in August. Clooney’s statement came less than a month after he co-hosted a star-studded fundraiser for the Biden campaign that included former President Barack Obama, talk show host Jimmy Kimmel and actress Julia Roberts. Clooney’s support for the president now appears to be waning. “It’s devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe ‘big F-ing deal’ Biden of 2010,” he wrote. “He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate.”  “Was he tired? Yes.  A cold?  Maybe. But our party leaders need to stop telling us that 51 million people didn’t see what we just saw. We’re all so terrified by the prospect of a second Trump term that we’ve opted to ignore every warning sign,” Clooney, 63, said.

House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries plans to convey the growing concerns of his caucus about President Biden’s campaign directly to the president. As he exited the House floor Wednesday, Jeffries told CBS News, “We are continuing to have candid and clear-eyed and comprehensive conversations with the House Democratic Caucus throughout the week, and that is the focus of our activity today, tomorrow, and we’ll see where we go from there.” CNN first reported Jeffries’ plan to approach the president. CNN’s chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta also recommended that Joe Biden undergo cognitive testing and share his results. The US President more or less refused the idea in his ABC interview.  We are seeing the embarrassing results on YouTube and all over the internet where Joe Biden’s Best or Greatest Gaffe’s, Hits or Blunders are now on display for the world to see.  As for Donald Trump, he feels that Biden will be removed from the race, and he will be running against Kamala Harris for President of the United States.  

Jeffries’s plans come as the number of House Democrats publicly calling on Mr. Biden to relinquish his place on the ticket has now risen to nine, with the addition of Rep. Earl Blumenauer, of Oregon, and Rep. Pat Ryan of New York, who said he’s “asking Joe Biden to step aside” in the upcoming election to “deliver on his promise to be a bridge to a new generation of leaders.”  Vermont Democrat Peter Welch became the first Senator to call on the President to withdraw from the race.  “We cannot unsee President Biden’s disastrous debate performance,” Welch wrote in a Washington Post op-ed. “We cannot ignore or dismiss the valid questions raised since that night.”  Jeffries has spent more than a week listening to various factions of the Democratic caucus. On Wednesday, he met with a group of swing-state Democrats as well as the New Democrat Coalition, a source familiar with the meetings confirmed to CBS News.  Though the president told congressional Democrats in a letter this week that he’s “firmly committed” to running, some Democrats in Congress are still suggesting he faces a decision about continuing his campaign and that his future on the ticket remains an open question.  Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, when asked Wednesday morning whether he has her support to lead the ticket, deferred to Mr. Biden, saying that “it’s up to the president” to decide if he’s going to run.  “We’re all encouraging him to make that decision,” she said on MSNBC. “Because time is running short.”
