Intense Rain in Panama Continues

Panama remains under the scourge of intense rains and electrical storms after two tropical waves passed through the region, the Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Imhpa) reported today.  According to the institution, since Monday night and early Tuesday morning, heavy rainfall has been recorded in different sectors of the country, including the capital city.

According to forecaster Roberto Martínez, an unstable atmosphere continues in the country due to the incidence of the intertropical convergence zone, which is bordering the Panamanian Caribbean.  The Imhpa issued a rain watch warning, which is in effect until midnight tomorrow, Wednesday.  The areas under warning are Chiriquí, Veraguas, Los Santos, Herrera, Coclé, Panamá Oeste, Panama, Darién, Bocas del Toro, Colón, the Emberá Wounaan, Ngäbe-Buglé, Guna Yala regions and maritime sectors of the country.

According to the Imhpa, the isthmus is on alert for a new period with high humidity content, significant rainy events, electric shocks and possible gusts of wind.  For their part, authorities of the National Civil Protection System reiterated to the population the importance of avoiding crossing rivers and streams and being aware of possible floods and landslides.
