Intense Rain Predicted for Panama, Boquete in Coming Days

A new tropical wave will be entering the national territory between the evening of this Saturday, June 8, and the morning of Sunday, June 9, as announced by personnel from the Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama (Imhpa).

Pilar López, meteorologist at the Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama, in her analysis of the country’s climatological situation, predicts the presence of some showers in areas of the capital, with greater probability towards northern sectors, in the afternoon and part of the morning and evening.  The same forecast applies to Panama West and Panama East, without ruling out the province of Colón, central provincial sectors and the west of the country; mainly in the mountain ranges and mountainous areas such as Boquete, where a greater rainfall contingency is expected.

López stated that there is already a new tropical wave, which is close to entering Colombia and is expected to enter the national territory on Saturday night or early Sunday, causing rainy events.  It is expected that with the arrival of this new tropical wave to the territory, the rains will intensify for several consecutive days.  Forecasts even predict significant rainfall for this coming Sunday and Monday.  In the Tierras Altas de Chiriquí sector, Mayor Javier Pitti called on the population to look for a safe place in case there is an intensification of the rains, since reservoirs in the upper part of Cerro Punta could be released, generating a tragedy.

On Thursday and Friday afternoon in the Highlands there was river and road flooding and landslides, which is why this warning is also issued to this sector of the population.
