New Holiday in Panama July 1st

In 2024, a day off was added to the holiday calendar in Panama due to the importance of an event that will mark the history of the country.  July 1 was chosen in commemoration of the inauguration of the elected president, José Raúl Mulino.  This day is considered a mandatory day of rest according to the country’s Labor Code.

Reason For Day Off

The date is established in article 49 of the Labor Code, which dictates that July 1, the day of the presidential inauguration, is a mandatory day of rest.  Those who must work this day will receive a 150% addition on their regular salary and will be entitled to another day of rest as compensation.

This day of mandatory rest will allow Panamanians to participate and celebrate the democratic event of the presidential transition, marking the beginning of the new mandate of José Raúl Mulino.
