130,000 People in Panama Live in Poverty
Multidimensional poverty in the country decreased from 19% in 2018 to 14.8% in 2022, positively impacting more than 130,000 people throughout the country. These were the claims made by the Multidimensional Poverty Index, and presented Friday by the Minister of Social Development (Mides) and technical coordinator of the Social Cabinet, María Inés Castillo. In Castillo’s opinion, this significant advance represents a “historic milestone” for Panama in its fight against social inequities, which should encourage us to continue building a future where all Panamanians can continue to prosper.
