Baltimore Bridge Collapse Update
View the container ship smashing into the bridge from cameras in space. The ship that collided with the Baltimore bridge in the USA has containers with dangerous chemicals. Authorities estimate that the containers contain 764 tons of corrosive and flammable materials, such as lithium-ion batteries. Only two bodies have been recovered in the wreckage. Debris is preventing divers from accessing the area where additional victims are believed to be. Once the cleanup is complete, the search for bodies will resume. Eight workers were fixing potholes on the bridge when the cargo ship Dali lost power and struck it, causing it to collapse. Two of the workers were rescued. The 1.6-mile bridge, named after the poet who wrote “The Star-Spangled Banner” spanned a major thoroughfare of East Coast shipping. It was also the entryway to the port, which is the largest port in the U.S. for specialized cargo like trucks, tractors and trailers. The ship known as the Dali had recently traversed the Panama Canal on March 13th on its way to Baltimore Maryland. Insured losses could total between $2 billion and $4 billion.
