Covid-19 positivity at 32.9 % – nine deaths
Panama maintains a positivity rate for covid-19 of 32.5% said the Ministry of Health (Minsa) on Wednesday, January 10.
In addition, during epidemiological week No. 1 of 2024, (Sunday, December 31, 2023 to Saturday, January 6, 2024) 2,680 new positive cases of covid-19 were confirmed.
A total of 1,055,998 infections have been reported in the country since March 2020, when the first case of the virus was detected.
According to the Minsa, in that last epidemiological week, 8,237 tests were carried out, for a positivity percentage of 32.5%.
Currently, there are 2,388 active cases, of which 2,318 are in home isolation and 70 hospitalized (65 in the ward and 5 in intensive care units), “raising the total number since the beginning of the pandemic by 1,055,998,” the entity recalled.
The total number of recoveries, during week No. 1 of 2024, was 2,365 patients, and seven deaths were recorded in week No. 1 and two (2) deaths in week 52, for a cumulative of 9 deaths, which raises to 8,688 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
The townships with the most confirmed cases in the detailed period are San Francisco (Panama) with 155, Juan Díaz (Panama) with 122, Bella Vista (Panama) with 116; Rufina Alfaro (San Miguelito) with 115 and David (Chiriquí) with 109.
