Trump renews attacks on prosecutor and judge
Former US president Donald Trump attacked on Monday, August 7, the special prosecutor investigating him, Jack Smith, and Judge Tanya Chutkan, in charge of the case in which Trump is accused of trying to reverse the result of the 2020 elections.
Trump’s messages, on the social network that he himself created, Truth Social, come hours before his lawyers respond to a request from the Prosecutor’s Office so that the former president cannot share sensitive information about the case on social networks.
Specifically, prosecutors want Chutkan of the District of Columbia court to issue a “protective order” preventing Trump from sharing on social media information about witnesses and other evidence that the prosecution will present during the judicial process. Trump’s lawyers will oppose that request and have until 5:00 pm local time to present their arguments in writing before the judge.
In Truth Social, Trump advanced the argument of his defense and affirmed that any attempt to silence him would violate the First Amendment of the Constitution, which protects freedom of expression.
” No, they should not impose a protection order on me because it would be violating my right to FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION. Instead, they should do it with the disturbed Jack Smith and the Department of Justice, since they are illegally leaking information everywhere, “Trump attacked. The former president offered no evidence to back up his allegations against Smith, while the special counsel’s office has been operating in top secret in recent months.
Last week, Smith asked the judge to limit Trump’s ability to share information on social media after Trump issued a threat Friday on social media. ” IF YOU GO FOR ME I’M GOING FOR YOU! ” he wrote. Last Thursday, Trump appeared before a federal court in the District of Columbia, where he pleaded not guilty to the four counts charged against him for allegedly trying to reverse the 2020 election in which he lost against the current president, Joe Biden, and for having instigated the assault on the Capitol.
It is the third criminal charge against the former president, also charged in New York for bribing the porn actress Stormy Daniels and in Miami for having illegally taken classified documents when leaving power.
