Local reps do an Oliver Twist and ask for more

The representatives of the corregimiento insist that they increase their salaries by 50%  – precisely at election time – and when the country is in the process of economic recovery and when every penny is needed to cover the needs of tens of thousands of Panamanians, affected by the side effects of the pandemic. What the representatives want at this moment is inhumane, because they are only thinking of themselves, because these increases almost reach $10 million a year, money that can be used for the benefit of the community and not in favor of a group of politicians that the only thing they know how to do is waste and fill their pockets, and not in a few cases. If the government agrees to these increases, what kind of message will we receive? It is obvious that, if there is a raise for these politicians, then there must be one for nurses, doctors, educators or police officers. Is the government willing to give all these increases? Or will you lean solely on representatives? Apart from all this, what is clear to us is that the representatives are not thinking about the well-being of their fellow citizens, but about their own.
