WOMEN’S WORLD CUP: Canada 2, Ireland 1

Canada defeated Ireland 2-1 on Wednesday, July 26, in front of a  packed  Rectangular Stadium in Perth. The Irish fans took over the Australian city and filled the stadium to the brim. Despite support from the Irish fans, they did not match up on the field of play. An own goal from Megan Connolly and one from Adriana Leon (19)were enough for Canada to defeat Ireland. Captain Katie McCabe scored for the Irish. With this result, the Europeans will have very difficult access to the next round, while Canada. the team that won the gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games achieved an important step towards their qualification to the round of 16.
