Panama diplomat recalled after wife’s spat with concierge

The Panamanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs made the decision to remove an accredited diplomat in Argentina from his duties,  after a woman, the concierge of a building in the Recoleta area, Buenos Aires, denounced the wife of the business attaché for assault and alleged threats, according to a note in the Argentine newspaper Clarín.

 A statement from Ministry reported that the appropriate conditions do not exist to keep them at the diplomatic headquarters.

“The head of the diplomatic delegation of Panama in Argentina is aware of the details of these unfortunate events and has made contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of that country, in order to make us available to the corresponding authorities to collaborate in clarifying the facts that are indicated and inform the return of the official and his family to Panama”, the statement highlights.

The note adds that: ” This Ministry rejects any act of violence and reaffirms that the conduct of officials accredited in the Foreign Service must reflect, at all times and in each of their actions, the respect and consideration that Panama assigns to their relations with the Receiving State where they are accredited. “

The facts
As reported by the Clarín newspaper, an Argentine television channel published images in which the aggression that took place in the hall of the building is observed. The person in charge suffered two broken ribs and is undergoing medical treatment.

The Argentine media pointed out that the fight would have started because the concierge rebuked the official’s daughter for leaving the elevator door open, disabling it completely, which led to the discussion with the diplomat’s wife.

The rest was exposed in a video, where the aggression, hair pulling, beatings, and the concierge lying on the ground can be seen.

Juliana Gómez, a Paraguayan national, reported to Channel TN that since then she has received “intimidation and threats”, in addition to fearing for her life, as reported by Clarín.

The woman alleged to the Argentine media that she received letters not to involve Carlos Lawson, business attaché at the Panamanian embassy; nor her wife Jessica Giovana Pineda Quintero, who attacked her, as reported in Clarín.
