Job Creation, Panama’s Major Labor Day Challenge
The creation of jobs and the preparation of the labor force in new technologies are among the major challenges that the country has to face unemployment said Panama’s Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (Cciap), on Labor Day, Monday May 1.
“We have consistently insisted on this. The unemployment rate has been high in recent years, mainly due to the impact of the pandemic, but also due to economic and political factors. To face this situation, it is urgent that the Government, the private sector, and workers redouble efforts in the effective implementation of policies aimed at generating quality jobs, promoting investment in infrastructure, diversifying the economy, and promoting entrepreneurship,” said the Chamber.
The business association highlights that these actions will not only reduce unemployment but will also strengthen Panama’s position on the global economic scene.
It emphasized that technical education is another key element for a prosperous and equitable future. Given this, it is crucial to create scenarios for Panamanian youth to acquire the necessary skills to face the challenges of the labor market. In addition, take advantage of the opportunities offered by new technologies.
Specialized training
The Cciap recalled that the Higher Specialized Technician (ITSE), with which the business sector has been working for several years, plays a fundamental role in promoting specialized training, adapted to the demands of the current labor market.
It expressed that deepening the scope of the ITSE implies expanding the educational offer and ensuring a greater articulation between technical careers and the needs of the country’s labor market.
The union also emphasizes that it has created the Center for Vocational Training and Business Development, where not only employees of member companies are trained, but also agreements with public and private educational institutions to encourage continuing education of employees.
