Treasonous silence  follows priest’s expulsion

The Government of Panama has become an accomplice in the expulsion of a priest born in this country and who until a few days ago provided his services in Nicaragua. The regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo ordered the Panamanian priest to be thrown out of his country, violating his human rights with impunity, an abuse that has not even caused the PRD government to yawn. And it is that Ortega enjoys the appreciation of a group of politicians from the ruling party who, if it were not for appearances, would even be applauding the actions of this autocrat, the applause that he perhaps even receives under the table. The Panamanian Foreign Ministry has not even questioned, much less condemned, the expulsion of this Panamanian from Nicaragua. Her deliberate omission makes her an accomplice to outrage, but since the President of the Republic is responsible for foreign relations, it is he who must be asked why there has not been a severe and direct pronouncement of condemnation against Ortega and in favor of the priest. Is it that we should interpret his silence as a condemnation? Well, no, none of that. Silence grants, and in this case, approves and conceals.
