Wingo creates 3 new routes in Colombia

The Colombian airline Wingo, headquartered in Bogotá announced  Thursday that it will strengthen its operation in the domestic market with three new routes, an increase in frequencies already operated, and greater capacity on routes to the island of San Andrés.

The announcement comes at a time when the country is experiencing an air crisis due to the cessation of operations of two low-cost airlines: Viva Air on February 27 and Ultra Air on Wednesday.

Wingo’s new routes are from Bogotá to Barranquilla, Bucaramanga, and Pereira, the company said in a statement.

“We are aware that the airline industry in Colombia has had recent episodes that affect the availability of seats on domestic flights, which is why we have decided to increase our capacity on domestic flights to expand the offer, from the low-cost model,” said commercial director, Jorge Jimenez.

The executive explained that the airline will increase its internal operation by 79% and with this, it seeks to contribute to the stability of the air sector in Colombia, with a greater offer of seats at low cost.

Wingo will offer four weekly frequencies for each route, which will start in stages. The first to take off will be the route to Barranquilla, on May 15; then to Pereira, on June 5, and the last, to Bucaramanga, on June 12.

In total, the airline will make available to the market about 19,000 seats per month on these routes.

Wingo also reported that it will increase by 58% the operation of its two routes to the San Andrés and Providencia archipelago that take off from Cartagena and Barranquilla.

The airline will also begin a series of charter flight operations from Bogotá and Medellín to San Andrés on April 1.
