Residents block highway  to protest water shortage

Residents of Burunga , in the district of Arraiján, upset at not receiving answers from the government due to the lack of drinking water they are suffering,  closed both lanes of the Centenario road, close to the community on Wednesday, March 22 – World Water Day.

Earlier,  after holding a protest at the facilities of the National Institute of Aqueducts and National Sewers (Idaan) , they would go to the streets if they were not attended to by the authorities.

They are residents of communities such as La Alameda, Progreso, Villa 13, and Nuevo Jerusalén, who said they were tired of the lack of drinking water supply.

Hundreds of drivers going to and from Panama City were affected as a result of the enormous congestion the protest caused.

Crowd control agents of the National Police removed protestors from the road but they warned they would be back if no one from Idaan arrived.
