Weekend downpours and flooding alert
Scattered rains and downpours with potential electrical activity will be present from the night of March 11 until Tuesday, March 14, the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) warned Saturday.
The areas under surveillance are the provinces of Chiriquí, Bocas del Toro, Veraguas, and Darién and in the Ngäbe Buglé and Emberá Wounaan regions.
Sinaproc’s prevention message arises from the surveillance notice generated by the Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama (IMHPA), which indicates that “there is little incursion of the trade winds over the country, due to the organization and strengthening of low pressure and troughs towards the Pacific Ocean”.
In addition, they warn that sudden flooding of rivers and streams could be registered in the named areas. Sinaproc suggests that the community in general be cautious in the face of these conditions and keep informed of the evolution of alerts and others through the official information accounts of the emergency and security departments. In case of emergencies, the community can be contacted on the telephone lines 520-4429/911 and/or mobile at 6998-4809.
