OPINION: Blatant disrespect for democracy
The most relevant thing yesterday in the National Assembly (AN) was the disrespect for the institutional framework. In the first place, the dissident deputies of Cambio Democrático, in an act of childish spoilage, absented themselves from the AN and went to embrace their new leader, the one who is seeking the Presidency to evade his criminal proceedings. Secondly: the words of the president of the AN, a speech disguised as a management report that badly hid his political aspirations, distancing himself from his government, even from his party and colleagues. He listed laws passed under his administration to prove – he said – that this State body “did something”. And while he talked about the needs of the people, he deliberately ignored that the AN wasted hand over fist, thanks to the highest budget in its history. The third act was the president’s speech, who devoted 75% of his words to boring us with the list of works done in 2022 and those that are pending. And, although he mentioned it, he said nothing that we didn’t already know about the negotiations with the mining company or the Social Security funds, the two biggest problems in the country. We drown in trouble and they describe the water to us, with their blatant disrespect for our democracy. – LA PRENSA, Jan. 3.
