OPINION: Mine negotiations behind the back create rumors
Negotiations between the mining company and the Government have resumed at the highest level, in search of a solution to the problems that arose after the parties had reached agreements last January. It is understandable that negotiation of this type is delicate, but what cannot be is that these conversations take place behind the back of Panamanian society, which, after all, is the owner of this patrimony. The Government has the obligation to inform the entire country of the pending issues, those that cause major disagreements and the status of the negotiations; something similar to what he did with the pandemic. The mining issue is transcendental for the country and should not be taken lightly, much fewer report results when what is needed is more information on progress. If you continue this pattern of behavior, Speculations, suspicions, rumors, and suspicions will be inevitable, because the information holes, if they are not filled with timely and truthful communication, will be taking care of precisely those other things that the Government rejects. Negotiating behind the back of society is not advisable, since this is an issue that the entire country is very aware of. – LA PRENSA, Dec. 29.
