Theologian criticizes  Pope’s rejection of female priests

 

Former Franciscan friar Leonardo Boff, one of the main ideologues of Liberation Theology and who in recent years has supported and congratulated the changes promoted by Pope Francis in the Church, criticized Friday the rejection of the female priesthood.

“We have supported almost everything that Pope Francis has written and taught, but at this point I allow myself to distance myself critically since this is also the job of reasoned theology,” said the Brazilian theologian and philosopher in a long article that he published on his Internet page.

“Pope Francis’ no to the priesthood of women: residues of patriarchy?” Boff wondered in the article. The pontiff said that the refusal of the Church is due to a theological problem
