Bidders for $40 million maintainence contract get fresh bite at the apple

The evaluation commission appointed by the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) to review tender proposals for the rehabilitation and maintenance of the three stages of the Cinta Costera and the Amador Causeway delivered the second evaluation of the offers made by interested companies.

The General Directorate of Public Procurement ordered a new evaluation after accepting as valid the claims presented by four of the participants who indicated that their bids were erroneously qualified.

The global contract has an estimated price of $33 million, but the MOP divided the works into three lines.

In recent weeks, citizen discomfort has intensified due to the lack of maintenance along the three stages of the coastal strip and the Amador Causeway.

According to MOP minister, Rafael Sabonge, the situation arose as a result of the expiration of the maintenance contracts for the areas and delay in the process of hiring new contractors.

He said that the maintenance of the green areas is being attended to by crews from the MOP, while the infrastructure works in the viaducts and recreational areas will be attended to through the new contracts that are in the bidding process.

In addition to the repairs along 14.1 kilometers, the contractors that are selected will be responsible for the maintenance of the areas that will be intervened during the three years established for the works.

On Thursday, the MOP crew was cutting grass in the area near the Matasnillo River. The companies had to certify that they have developed projects for the construction and/or maintenance of rigid pavement highways, with a minimum length of 5 kilometers, in the last 12 years and with an amount of work carried out within $40 million.

They must also show that they have experience in the maintenance of green areas with a minimum extension of 15 hectares in the last 12 years and, have experience in drinking water systems, electrical systems and lighting, parks, sports fields, irrigation systems, and road circulation systems.
