Streets flooded in capital warning of more to come

With the torrential downpour recorded on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 12, several streets in Panama City were flooded,  and multiple trees were reported to have fallen.

The National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc), earlier issued a prevention notice for downpours and storms of varying intensity and electrical activity starting this Wednesday, until October 15.

Meanwhile, all provinces, regions of the country, and corresponding maritime sectors are kept under notice.

According to the entity, the warning is due to unstable conditions and suitable for a new period with rainy events accompanied by storms with a high-altitude trough axis with low-pressure systems that will generate wind flows, which will modulate the conditions of weather in Panama

It adds that there is a greater risk of adverse events in the provinces that still have saturated soils or a high concentration of humidity. This could generate landslides and floods in a short time.

The accumulated rainfall in coastal or low-lying areas of the country could range from 50 millimeters per day and in mountainous areas exceed 60 millimeters per day.
