Hurricane Julia suspends classes across the country for Monday
The Ministry of Education (Meduca) announced Saturday the suspension of classes in public and private schools throughout the country for Monday, October 10 due to the heavy rains that will be generated by Hurricane Julia -which moves through the Caribbean- in the next few hours.
The Minister of Education, Maruja Gorday de Villalobos said the measure was
recommended by the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) to guarantee the safety of the members of the educational community, in the face of the effects of Hurricane Julia.
“These rains could cause landslides, flooding of rivers and streams,” she said.
The minister indicated that as the hour’s progress they will evaluate the situation to announce the restart of classes.
