Endorsment of draft law to get overweight cops off the streets

The  National  Assembly Justice and Constitutional Matters Committee has endorsed a draft law, which modifies the Organic Law of the National Police, on the physical health of agents.

One of the articles of this initiative presented by the deputy of the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD), Jairo Salazar, seeks to suspend or remove from the streets those agents who are not in good physical condition or are overweight.

“If they do not meet their ideal weight, their promotions will be stopped (…) if they do not have the weight according to their height, their promotion will be stopped and not only that, in another article that we have here, if not they have the ideal weight, we are going to take them off the streets and we are going to put them as secretaries in a desk or counter” warned the deputy when supporting the initiative.

If the rule is approved, the Executive Branch must regulate it and establish physical tests for police officers.
