Plácido Domingo wiretapped in criminal sect probe

The Spanish tenor Plácido Domingo appears in one of the wiretaps that are part of the investigation that recently allowed the dismantling in Argentina of a criminal organization with branches in the United States, which operated as a sect and is accused, among other crimes, of human trafficking sources of the investigation confirmed to EFE.

The sources stressed that the tenor, is not accused of any crime, but they clarified that for the investigators “it is important to verify that the organization was related to recognized people.”

The voice of the Spanish artist appears in a telephone conversation with one of the leaders of the organization, Susana Mendelievich, nicknamed Mendy, in which they supposedly agree to meet in a hotel, according to sources.

The sources specified that the conversation was recorded in April, when Placido Domingo, 81, traveled to Argentina to perform at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.

The tenor’s name is also mentioned in two other wiretaps of conversations between Mendy and Juan Percowickz, nicknamed the Master and leader of the organization.

The wiretaps revealed now in Argentina are part of an investigation that lasted over a year and that allowed the so-called “Secta Sociedad Anónima” operation to be carried out on August 13, in which federal agents from the Trafficking in Persons Department of the Argentine Police Argentina arrested 19 people -among them Percowickz and Mendelievich-, suspected of committing various crimes.

The organization operated under the Escuela de Yoga de Buenos Aires.

 According to police sources, under the discourse of a philosophy that proclaimed “seeking the development of happiness”, the group recruited people to incorporate them into the organization, reduce them to servitude and, in some cases, offer them alleged medical treatment with the objective to obtain money, influence and protection for their leaders.

The investigators were able to determine that the organization used its members to offer sexual relations to people “in power”.

In the conversations, Mendy reports to Percowickz about what she has arranged over the phone to meet with Plácido Domingo.
