Health Ministry confirms the fifth case of monkeypox

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) confirmed Thursday, August 18, the fifth case of monkeypox in the country, the second recorded this week.

According to  Minsa the patient is a 57-year-old Panamanian residing abroad who

entered the country last Thursday, August 11, and made some visits to family and friends.

“The patient began on August 15, with vesicular-type skin lesions, and on, Wednesday, due to the increase in lesions, he went to the Tocumen Health Center where was clinically evaluated and samples are taken and sent to the Gorgas Memorial, where it is confirmed that he is positive for monkeypox”, said a Minsa  statement

The Minsa specified that the patient is in a stable condition and that he is in isolation in a hospital health facility. Similarly, it highlighted that a Health Ministry person proceeded to carry out traceability to search for the contacts of this person in order to establish prevention and control measures to contain the spread of the virus.
