Son and assistant of former Supreme Court Judge guilty of influence peddling

 

Oydén Ortega Collado and Claudia Purcait, the son and secretary of former Supreme Court Justice Oydén Ortega Durán, were found guilty of influence peddling by the unanimous decision of three judges on Friday, March 11, and will be sentenced on March 25.

During the trial, which began on March 8, anti-corruption prosecutors Leyda Saénz and Elvis Coronado presented before the judges a wealth of evidence that showed that those under investigation carried out a series of actions to get the magistrates of the Court to issue a favorable ruling. in a dispute over eight pieces of land in the province of Chiriquí.

Judges Ilka Castillo, Jennifer Saavedra, and Roberto Tejeira, unanimously, gave a guilty verdict for both defendants for having managed the handling of a judicial ruling that was in the Civil Chamber of the Supreme Court.

One of the conclusive pieces of evidence presented by the prosecution reports La Prensa was the testimony of César Alvarado Taylor, who reached a sentence agreement with the prosecution and who was the person who denounced Oydén Ortega Collado and Claudia Purcait. He assured that they demanded the payment of money to obtain the admission of an appeal in the Civil Court that would be favorable to his intention to recover his land.

In his statement before the court, Alvarado Taylor reported that he made payments of $5,000 and $15,000 for the admission of the appeal, but that later a payment of $250,000 was required to reach a favorable ruling, but he desisted because he did not have that sum of money.
