Guns for bonds program begins in San Miguelito

The Gelabert gymnasium, located in the Victoriano Lorenzo district (San Miguelito district), was chosen for the Monday, December 13 launch of a program of voluntary exchange of weapons for bonds usable in supermarkets or shops because of the high level of gun-related killings in the area.

The governor of Panama, Carla García, said that people will not have any problem when handing over their weapons, nor will they have to present any documentation. and assured that everything will be carried out confidentially.

After the delivery of weapons, an appraisal will be made that will give value to the weapons or explosives and, based on this, the amount of the bond will be handed over.

“What we want is to get the weapons off the streets and prevent violence,” said Jonathan Riggs, secretary-general of the Ministry of Public Security.

The Pacificando Mi Barrio program will continue Tuesday at the Gelabert gym, while on Wednesday it will move to the Santa Marta sports complex, also in San Miguelito. from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
