Panama could be at the start of fourth covid wave

Panama could be at the beginning of the fourth wave of covid-19, warns Eduardo Ortega-Barría, secretary of the National Secretariat of Science, Technology, and Innovation (SENACYT).

Ortega-Barría stressed that 90% of deaths from the virus are people who had not completed their vaccination schedule.

Only 9.5% of people who have died were vaccinated and are older adults, with morbid obesity and comorbidities, added the doctor.

Likewise, he highlighted that the cases of hospitalized patients have not advanced and in intensive care has not increased from 25.

“This is the effect of the vaccine, which prevents serious illness and fewer deaths,” Ortega-Barría said in Telemetro.
