93% of Panama ICU patients are unvaccinated

The Ministry of Health (Minas) reported on Wednesday that in epidemiological weeks 9 to 33 there have been 127 deaths from Covid-19 of unvaccinated people or with an incomplete vaccination schedule

93% of those hospitalized in the ICU are not vaccinated or have a single dose of the anticovid vaccine

The latest data from the Epidemiology report of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) released on August 24 show that there are 382 unvaccinated and vaccinated people against the Covid-19 disease hospitalized in wards and intensive care units (ICU) in the country.

Of that total, 237 are people who have not received any dose, 101 have a dose and 44 present their complete schedule of vaccination against Covid-19.

Paulino Vigil De Gracia, of the National Research System of the National Secretariat of Science, Technology, and Innovation, indicated that the data shared shows that only 11.5% of hospitalized people have a complete vaccination scheme.

In addition, he specified that 93% of the patients who are in the ICU are not vaccinated or do not have their two doses.

The two vaccines used in Panama (Pfizer / BioNTech and AstraZeneca have proven to be effective in avoiding hospitalization and deaths.

Panama, which began the vaccination day against Covid-19 on January 20, has managed until yesterday to apply both doses to an estimated 32% of the population.
