20% decrease in new covid cases last week

The epidemiological week from August 15 to 21 closed with 4,723 new cases of Covid-19,  a 20% decrease from the previous week, , when there were 5,945.

There was a daily average of 670 cases of Covid-19, down from 850 per day.

During the first 20 days of August, some 15,000 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported.

In its latest country situation report, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) specified that the decline in cases in Panama is being reported in all age groups, although at the moment the young population contributes the highest number of infections. . Currently, the proportion is at least two infections among those under 30 years of age for each case that occurs in those over 60 years of age.

In addition, the international organization highlighted that Panama and Costa Rica are the two Central American countries that currently have a decrease in new cases of Covid-19, while in others, such as Honduras and Guatemala, the numbers are increasing.
