The delivery of the fourth bridge over the Canal was scheduled for December 3, 2023. And despite the usual delays in this type of mega-project, it was likely that President Laurentino Cortizo could inaugurate the bridge together with line 3 of the metro. The radical changes to a multi-million dollar contract already awarded and with an order to proceed given in December 2018 have generated delays of many years. After the confirmation, by the Minister of Public Works, Rafael Sabonge, in February 2020, that the project would be divided into two, a bridge for cars and a tunnel for the subway, 18 months have taken to be awarded the tunnel design contract to a company questioned for acts of corruption. Not only will Cortizo be left without a monorail line, rather, but residents of the western area also have more years of roadblocks to get to and from their homes. Meanwhile, the great unknown remains of how much more this modification will cost the treasury. A change of this magnitude in such a large project would require better explanations, based on technical and financial criteria. However, the justifications given at this point seem spurious. –  LA PRENSA, Aug. 19
