First community case of delta variant confirmed
The Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, confirmed on Friday, August 6, that the first community case of the Delta variant of Covid-19 has been detected.
“As far as we understand, we already have a person in the province of Chiriquí with the Delta variant,” Sucre said.
“Be careful, let’s not trust ourselves because the Delta variant is giving the United States problems; you know how it is in Colombia, India, and the United Kingdom ”, said Sucre.
The Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported that this case in Chiriquí was confirmed after genomic sequencing carried out by the Gorgas Institute and the traceability of the people who had contact with this case in Chiriquí was carried out.
In addition, a case of a person who resides in the capital city and who contracted the virus abroad is reported.
Both people were reported to have had no strong symptoms of the disease.
The Health authorities so far have registered 17 detected cases of the variant; four in ports and another 11 in the Tocumen Airport.
