Spirit Airline facing “operational problems” for fifth day
The US low-cost airline Spirit continued Thursday with “operational problems” and canceled more than 300 flights, a situation that is repeated for the fifth consecutive day. On Tuesday they canceled 60% of the flights scheduled for that day.
According to the specialized website FlightAware, on Wednesday the low-cost airline, based in Miramar, in South Florida (USA), has canceled 325 flights, representing 47% of the schedule. Airline spokesman Erik Hofmeyer, the situation is due to a combination of problems including system failures, the weather, and even a shortage of personnel. “We have people who work for you (clients) 24 hours a day. For our team members, we are providing additional assistance at airports when possible and providing updates as the situation evolves, ”Spirit said in a written statement. US media show testimonies from passengers affected by cancellations or delays at various airports in the country, some of which, such as Tampa, in western Florida, did not see any airline flights depart on Monday. Spirit’s problems were added to by American Airlines, which on Tuesday also reported hundreds of canceled flights, in its case due to storms over the weekend in Texas, where the company is based.
