Lawmaker sex crimes trial will continue Saturday

The plenary session of the Supreme Court decided on  Friday, April 9, to continue on Saturday with the oral trial of deputy Arquesio Arias, for the alleged commission of crimes against freedom and integrity sexual detriment to two women.

The decision was made after the parties requested a recess on the third day of the hearing. It was at 2:50 pm that the trial was suspended, and it is expected to resume at 9:30 am on April 10.

During Friday’s session, which started at 9:40 am, o documentary evidence was presented to the Trial Court.

The prosecuting magistrate, Olmedo Arrocha, on the first day – April 7, 2021 – presented five pieces of evidence: two were testimonial and three expert witnesses. On  Thursday, Arrocha presented six pieces of evidence: one expert and five testimonials.

It was reported that about 50 witnesses will appear for the trial.

The deputy of the Democratic Revolutionary Party has been under house arrest since October 2019.
