Archbishop denies Markle’s prior marriage claim

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, denied on Monday, March 15, that he married Meghan Markle and Prince Harry three days before the televised ceremony, as they revealed to Oprah Winfrey.

Markle,39 , confessed to Winfrey during an interview – broadcast on March 7 in the United States – that she and the prince were actually married three days before their official ceremony in May 2018.

“Nobody knows. But we called the Archbishop [of Canterbury] and said, ‘Look, this show is for the world, but we want our union with each other,’ “said the retired actress during the interview broadcast by CBS.

However, this Monday Welby denied the claim of the Duchess of Sussex assuring that he did not celebrate any wedding.

According to a publication of the Spanish newspaper ABC, Justin qualified Meghan’s statement by saying that all he had was “a private conversation with the couple in the garden about the wedding.”

“But I can assure you that no wedding took place until the nationally televised event,” the archbishop told the English press.

Justin recalled that the Church of England requires two witnesses for any wedding to be valid and ceremonies must be held in a certified place of worship.
