No racism in palace – Prince William

Prince William said Thursday that the British royal family “is not racist” after his brother Henry denounced in the family talks about the color of the skin of their children Meghan, an American with a black mother and white father.

“We are not a racist family at all,” said William, 38, second in line to the British throne, during a visit to a school in a multiracial East London neighborhood.

Harry and Meghan explained their estrangement from the British royal family and their exile to California in an explosive television interview broadcast Sunday in the United States.

The 39-year-old former actress and her 36-year-old husband, sixth in line to the throne, cited unsustainable media pressure, racism, and a lack of support from the royal family as reasons for their departure from the monarchy.

But above all, what left star interviewer Oprah Winfrey speechless was when the couple claimed that an unidentified member of the royal family had conversations with Harry about the skin color their children would have, since Meghan is of mixed race.

These damaging accusations have reignited a heated debate about the colonial past and racism in the UK, sparked a year ago by protests from the Black Lives Matter movement.

Queen Elizabeth II, 94, responded Tuesday saying that “the whole family is saddened to learn how difficult the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.”

The monarch also said she took “very seriously” accusations of racism and promised that they would be dealt with “by the family in private”, but made it clear that “memories may vary” depending on the person.

This careful choice of words “suggests that the family does not agree with everything the Dukes of Sussex have said,” stressed the conservative newspaper The Daily Telegraph
