Panama post-pandemic an uncertain future
Today marks one year since the first Covid-19 contagion was discovered. Much has happened since then. Unfortunately, we cannot despite the fact that we have a respected body of doctors and scientists, assisted by technical professionals who have fought a tough battle in the last year. The problems have been in the circle that makes the decisions, many of them, uncertain, contradictory, erratic, delayed, confusing, abusive. That, to say the least, in health matters, since, on the economic issue, titanic efforts will have to be made to get the country out of the deep hole in which it is. Panama is on the verge of losing its rating; The debt contracted in the last year is stratospheric and much of that money we do not know how it is spent; But we know that there are surcharges in purchases, that part of the money is used for non-pressing purposes and even for unjustified expenses. Institutionalism and transparency are in pieces. To all this, we have to add a gross domestic product that is falling and unemployment increasing every day. The pandemic has only been the beginning of an uncertain future. – LA PRENSA, Mar 9
