Trump’s Twitter suspension is final
AFP, Washington – Twitter will not allow former US President Donald Trump to return to the platform even if he stands in the elections again, the company’s chief financial officer said Wednesday.
“As our policies work, when you are removed from the platform, you are removed from the platform,
whether you are a current or former commentator, CFO or public official,” Ned Segal said in an interview with CNBC television.
Trump’s ouster by Twitter followed a violent revolt by his supporters that led to a deadly siege of the US Capitol on January 6. Facebook and other social networks also blocked Trump after the incident.
For these events, the former president is the subject of an Impeachment trial in the Senate that began this week.
“Our policies are designed to ensure that people do not incite violence,” Segal said.
“And if someone does, we would have to take them out of service and our policies don’t allow people to come back.”
Trump was a prolific user of Twitter during his campaign and in his four years in the White House, using the platform for political ads, to settle scores with his enemies and for his political campaign.
He had more than 80 million followers says AFP.
