Trump’s youngest son contracts Covid 19

AFP, Washington President Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron, 14,  has contracted the coronavirus, first lady Melania Trump revealed on Wednesday, as the Republican president struggles to regain ground in his reelection race amid criticism of his management of the pandemic.

“Naturally I immediately thought of our son,” Melania wrote in a text entitled “My experience with covid-19”, two weeks after testing positive for the virus, like her husband.

“My concerns came true when he was tested again and the results came back positive,” she added, noting that after that her son had tested negative again. “Fortunately, he is a healthy teenager and has not shown any symptoms,” she said.

The news, which had been kept secret despite global attention to the president’s own health, who last week was hospitalized for covid-19 for three days, once again put the spotlight on the pandemic and, in particular, on an outbreak inside the White House.

Trump, who resumed his campaign agenda on Monday, has tried to push the issue of the pandemic away 20 days before the November 3 elections, in which he faces Democratic candidate Joe Biden.

“Barron is fine,” Trump told reporters at as he addressed a rally in Iowa, abruptly shifting to the long-awaited confirmation in the Republican-majority Senate of his conservative Supreme Court candidate Amy. Coney Barrett.

On Thursday night, Trump and Biden will compete for viewing in televised events, after the suspension of the second debate between the two applicants due to the diagnosis of Covid-19 by the president, who flatly denied that the verbal duel was virtual.

The president, who will be at the Perez Art Museum in Miami for an hour-long event, airing on NBC , has 20 days to reverse Biden’s favorable double-digit polls and secure re-election.

Biden will be looking from Philadelphia to cement his status as a favorite.

According to an average of national polls by RealClearPolitics, Biden has a 9.8 percentage point lead, and the Democrat is comfortably ahead in half a dozen key states.

NBC said it had received a statement from respected immunologist Anthony Fauci that there was “a high degree of confidence” that Trump is “no longer spreading viruses.”

The NBC president and host will be distanced outdoors and the audience will wear masks, the network reported.
