Mounties raid Montreal home linked to Trump poison letter
Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).acting on a request from the FBI raided a condominium in Montreal on Monday, September 21 in the framework of an investigation launched after the sending of a poison-laced letter to US President, Donald Trump.
An RCMP unit specialized in chemical, biological, explosive, and nuclear threats carried out the raid in Longueuil, in southern Montreal, said Canadian police.
It followed the arrest of a woman while trying to enter the United States from Canada, said a spokesman for the RCMP
The woman, who was carrying a firearm when she was arrested, is expected to appear in a US court on Monday to face federal charges but the hearing has been moved to Tuesday.
She was arrested over the weekend at the Peace Bridge border crossing between Fort Erie, Ont., and Buffalo, N.Y., and has been identified as Pascale Ferrier, according to U.S. court records provided to CBC News.
Ferrier was supposed to appear in court Monday, but her appearance has been delayed until Tuesday afternoon, according to a spokesperson for the United States Attorney’s Office.
The poison in the letter would be ricin, a toxin that is extracted from castor beans according to CNN and is lethal even in minimal doses if ingested, snorted or injected, collapsing the organs.
The letter was discovered last week and did not reach the White House, The New York Times and CNN reported.
